All of our original designs are handmade at our studio in the creative county of Staffordshire. Our wooden plaques are all cut by hand and then painted and distressed individually to give them their distinctive weather beaten look. Then the designs are again, all cut by hand and then applied to the wood to a set pattern or layout.
The wooden map counties are also cut, painted and distressed by hand. Then using vintage maps collected over the last few years, a selection of places within that county are chosen. Once printed, each individual letter is painstakingly cut out with a scalpel knife to get the exact look and feel required. Because these are a relatively new range for Salty Seas, there is only a few designs available but these will be expanded upon in the next few months. We also do offer a personlaised design service on these, if you have a particular area or idea that you would like
us to make, please get in touch.
One of my lasting memories are the brightly coloured houses that you sometimes see at the seaside. Somewhat evocative of a typical British seaside town, painted in their ice cream like colours never fail to raise a smile and make you feel content. At the moment we have three varieties, each one again, made by hand from the small chimneys right down to each individual window and door.
